“…for dust you are,and to dust you will return” Gen 3.19
These two images are of small Momento Mori that I recently saw during my stay in New York. Both dating around 1500, they add a rich and deep dimension in my understanding to Ash Wednesday. Translated roughly from Latin as “Remember you must die”, Momento Mori were often wore around ones neck–a reminder of ones mortality all but a touch away.
